Geography
Our Vision and Aims
At Stanhope Primary School, our geographers delve into geography from early in the EYFS and continues throughout their time here. They develop a passion of enquiry based learning and appreciate the specifically chosen topics which they cover. Children are encouraged to ‘think deeper’ to help them think like geographers through our key enquiry questions. They also explore location, place, human and physical features and geographical skills in each topic.
Geography forms part of the Stanhope Learning Quest, a series of cross-curricular topics that give purpose and context to the knowledge, concepts and skills taught. Sequences of lessons build on prior learning, make meaningful connections within and across subjects and enable children to know more and remember more over time. Our curriculum drivers of growth mind-set, community and environment shape every aspect of geography, are embedded in teaching and learning and develop the child as a whole. It is our intent to inspire a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people and enable children to express well-balanced opinions about current issues affecting society and the environment locally, nationally and globally.
